Borsa Kahvesi, Manisa

The project is a documentation of Modern Architecture in Manisa City, in Turkey. The chosen building is a modern heritage built in the last quarter of XIX. century. The architect is unknown. It is owned by Commodity Exchange. It can be visited on Borsa Cad. Nisancipasa. Manisa, TR.

 

Manisa is a significant city of Turkey which holds the means of Industrial, and agricultural production. Commercial facility spaces, Shops and Coffee Shops are located on significant axes because of the pattern of the city. Commodity Exchange building is also located on the main axes of the city, on the intersection of Ataturk Boulevard and Borsa Street.

The hinterland of the building is composed of low density, single or duplex commercial buildings and mid-density, multi-story residential buildings. It is situated in the central area of the city with density of commercial and residential buildings. The area has density on small shops and socializing areas such as coffee shops, bakeries and patisseries. The building is also on walking distance to Commodity Exchange, so it also feeds the social needs of the commercial activities.

The building has the stylistic features of its era, so it has a significant value on the pattern of the city. With the fountain on its corner, the building is suggesting also an urban socializing area. It was built on Ottoman Neo-Classical style with Masonry structure and hip roof with Marcel tiles.

The building was restored by Sultan Abdulhamid Han of Ottoman in 1907. The second restoration on the building was held on 2001(13.11.2001) by Commodity Exchange.

The documentation process is held by Manisa Chamber of Architects (branch of Izmir Chamber of Architects) and supervised by Gokcecicek Savasir* and H. Ibrahim Alpaslan*.
